2022 NBA Odds and Betting Update

The NBA regular season is approaching the midway point, and the most recent few weeks have been especially chaotic with so many players entering and exiting the league’s health and safety protocols. Some of the NBA’s biggest stars are among the list of players who have missed games for this reason, but despite all of that, the NBA title favorites have remained largely intact. The Golden State Warriors have continued their dominance and have moved into the top position in the Western Conference betting odds, with only the Brooklyn Nets ahead of them for the NBA Championship. The Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks round out the group of teams that are currently better than +1000 to win it all, while the Los Angeles Lakers have fallen below that mark after playing well below expectations to this point.

The Warriors and the Chicago Bulls are clearly the two teams that exceeded expectations to the largest degree to begin the season, but the more recent phenomenon has been the play of the Memphis Grizzlies, both with and without Ja Morant in the lineup. Morant, the current favorite for the Most Improved Player of the Year award, missed a handful of games with a knee injury, but the Grizzlies actually played extremely well in his absence and have continued their success since he returned. Memphis is on a six game winning streak as of the first week in January, and they’ve won 16 of their last 20 games dating back to late November. They’re still just +7000 to win the NBA Finals, but they’ve moved past the Dallas Mavericks as favorites in the Southwest Division.

Steph Curry has been the favorite for NBA MVP for the majority of the season, and his lead has been growing as he’s now +120 to win the award. The leaders in the other awards categories have extended their margins too, with Evan Mobley all the way up to -110 for Rookie of the Year. Morant is +100 for the Most Improved Player, and Tyler Herro is up to -300 for Sixth Man of the Year. Lastly, Draymond Green seems to be getting a ton of credit for the Warriors’ winning efforts, especially on defense, and he’s up to -120 for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
