2021 MLB Odds and Betting

The 2021 MLB season is underway, as the Los Angeles Dodgers look to defend their title after beating the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series in 2020. The Dodgers are the clear favorites to do so, with shortest betting odds (+350) and the highest win total over/under (102.5). The New York Yankees (+550) and the San Diego Padres (+800) are the top contenders to begin the year, as the MLB returns to its 162-game schedule after the teams played just 60 games last season.

The rest of the top World Series favorites are similar to last year’s top teams, with the New York Mets (+1000) being the biggest exception. The Mets had a busy offseason in acquiring Francisco Lindor, and they’re now tied for 5th (with the Braves) for shortest odds to win the World Series. The St. Louis Cardinals (+2200) and Toronto Blue Jays (+2200) are two of the other most prominent teams on the rise, while Cubs (+4000) and Indians (+4000) are expected to take a step back.

The 2021 MVP races are beginning much like they usually do, with Mike Trout (+225) the obvious favorite in the AL, while there are once again no clear favorites in the NL. Last year’s winner Freddie Freeman begins the season at +1300 for NL MVP, with Juan Soto (+735), Mookie Betts (+750), and a few others ahead of him. Cy Young odds are led by Gerrit Cole (+350) in the AL, and Jacob deGrom (+425) in the NL.

The odds at the top of season leaders’ markets are clustered as well, and it should be a close and exciting race in just about all of them. Ronald Acuna Jr., Pete Alonso, and Mike Trout are co-favorites to lead the MLB in home runs this year at +1100, and deGrom (+425) is marginally ahead of Cole (+450) for most strikeouts. Juan Soto (+800) is the favorite for the RBI crown, while D.J. Lemahieu (+800) is the favorite to be the hits leader and Acuna Jr. (+650) is the favorite for runs scored.
