The No. 8 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels faced No. 1 seeded Kansas in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship in New Orleans, LA on Monday, April 4th, 2022. Kansas entered Monday’s title game after dismantling Villanova by a score of 81-65 in Saturday’s Final Four matchup. The Jayhawks were four-point favorites and covered against the Wildcats. North Carolina upset ACC rival Duke by a score of 81-77 in the Final Four. The Tar Heels were four-point underdogs, and the emotional victory ended the career of Blue Devils’ head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Kansas closed a 4.5-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook in the title game against Carolina, but after a quick 7-0 start by the Jayhawks, it was the Tar Heels that dominated the first half. UNC went on a 40-18 run to take a 40-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

However, after trailing by as many as 16 points, Kansas was able to turn things around in the second half. The Jayhawks eventually secured a 72-69 victory, marking the largest comeback in the history of the NCAA Championship Game. But the Tar Heels did cover the spread, finishing the NCAA Tournament a perfect 6-0 against the spread (ATS). While they cut down the nets, the Jayhawks finished the tournament 3-3 ATS.

Tar Heel’s head coach Hubert Davis became the fourth coach to lead his team to the title game in his first season as head coach. Kansas’ head coach Bill Self won his second National Title with the Jayhawks, with his first coming in 2008. All-American Ochai Agbaji of Kansas was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
